I still think the first book was laughably bad, given that the (still surprisingly healthy) love triangle occupied too much space and Celaena was not only arrogant and annoying, but also, and I can't stress this enough, an idiot of the highest degree (who eats random candies in a castles where people have been getting murdered for a while?). The love triangle that develops not only highlights the romantic tension but also serves to illustrate Celaena's struggles with trust and vulnerability
